The Phantom Tollbooth
by Norton Juster, Jules Feiffer (Illustrator)
One of the great children's novels! Join Milo as he drives his toy car through the toll booth and enters a bizarre, anarchic land where all rules are off. Characters like The Spelling Bee and The Terrible Din will never be forgotten by you or your kids. And the Jules Feiffer drawings are worth the price all by themselves.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (Books of Wonder)
by L. Frank Baum, W. W. Denslow (Illustrator)
The movie is wonderful, the book is better! Everyone knows the story, but what you may not know is that Books of Wonder has issued an edition that reproduces the first printing, from the turn of the 19th century, in exquisite detail. A priceless volume that should form one of the cornerstones of all children's libraries. The later books in the series are also great.

Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass
by Lewis Carroll, John Tenniel (Illustrator)
Over a hundred years later, Lewis Carroll's masterpieces are still hilarious. They may be a bit difficult for most littler kids, but young teenagers will love the ridiculous situations and the puns and the logical paradoxes.

Treasure Island
by Robert Louis Stevenson
There was a time when every child knew this story by heart. Alas, that era seems to be passing. But the lucky few who do encounter it will never forget Long John Silver and the rest. Yo ho ho!

A Wrinkle in Time
by Madeleine L'Engle
When I first read A Wrinkle In Time it sent shivers down my spine, but boy did I turn those pages fast. A unique fantasy adventure. It may be a little scary for younger kids.
