Lullaby
(BrijBhasha)
(English)
Sleep angel come down, put the little one to sleep,
I am coming, O I am coming, will put the little one to sleep!
Runs the little one into the garden, plucks the guavas to eat,
The gardener will curse my child & remove his dress and hat!
Why, O gardener why do you scold, and cast an evil eye on my child?
He drinks water from the well, & eats sweets given by his aunt…
Let the cough go to the grocer, my little one will eat his jaggery*,
The grocer is an old man, will give my child jaggery & coconut!!
Notes
*Jaggery is a less refined version of sugar. It comes from sugarcane and toddy palm.
