Lala lala wheat flower,
I'll make you a cradle
If God allows it
Your cradle will be of gold.
Lala lala be my flower,
Be my heart's solace (1)
Sleep, get off my back! (2)
Stay alive, be my companion
Lala lala be my flower,
In the Gachou (3) be my nightingale
In the Gachou you are the garden nightingale
Such that you are better than the flower for me.
Lala lala my kid is sleepy,
Open the door his/her father is coming,
You can hear his/her father's footsteps.
Lala lala you are free,
Everybody slept but you are awake
By the grace of beloved Prophet Ahemd (4)
I wish you relief from your pain and disease.
Lala lala lala-ee I took you to a Mullah (5)
I took you there to become literate
Not to get rid of you!
La la lala my kid is going to sleep.
My flock of lambs is going to drink water,
The sheepdog is moving in front of the flock,
The beautiful ewe is going to drink water.
Lala lala tulip flower,
The leopard moans in the mountain,
Toothless old leopard,
A donkey has eaten a sack!
And a dog has eaten the door of the hall!
Notes
(1) Give me solace.
(2) Yes, it means that the baby is bothering her somehow, because you know how it takes time to get a baby to sleep!
(3) A Gachou is a kind of cradle which was hung from the corners of the room.
(4) Ahemd is another name for the Muslim prophet Mohammed. Fatima wrote, "People in the Middle East (regardless of being Muslim, Christian or Jewish...) use such phrases when they want to pray for someone. They use it not only for the prophet, generally they use it for holy things. For example, they say 'I hope you succeed in your work (or any other thing) by the grace of (i.e. in respect of) this holy day.' They use it to bless their work."
(5) A Mullah is a literate person.
