(jumper touches the ground with fingertips between jumps)
–Fifth floor GET OUTTA TOWN!
(jumper runs out and takes one end of the rope – without breaking the rhythm – so that girl gets a turn to jump, and so on, and so on, etc.)
I grew up in a small town in the late 60's and early 70's and it never occurred to any of us that this rhyme might be politically incorrect. The innocence of youth, I suppose… I can see now (as an adult) how the rhyme could be offensive, but we just never thought like that as kids. It was just a silly rhyme to sing while skipping rope."
