Avete paura dell'uomo nero?
"L'uomo nero" is the bogeyman. In Italian, the phrase literally translates to "the black man" because he's dressed in a long black coat with a hood hiding his face. ("Black man" has no racist connotations.) "L'uomo nero" doesn't usually harm kids, but he does take them away to a scary place. There's even a lullaby where he takes them away for a whole year.
I asked Italian school teacher Emanuela Marsura about the "l'uomo nero" (the black man). Here's what she wrote:
"Our 'black man' (l'uomo nero) is a character of fantasy that every mother and father mentions to his child to persuade him he has to go to sleep or eat without a tantrum.
We also have a game about the 'black man'. Here's how you play it..."
Avete paura dell'uomo nero?
Are you Afraid of the Bogeyman?

Un gruppo di bambini si mette davanti ad un bambino solo, poco lontani. Il bambino solo dice a voce alta:
Bambino: "Avete paura dell'uomo nero?"
Gruppo: "Noooo!"
Bambino: "Volete vederlo?"
Gruppo: "Siiii!"
Bambino: "Venite!"
Il bambino "uomo nero" si gira intorno e fa finta di dormire.
I bambini toccano l'uomo nero e poi scappano.
I bambini cercano di non farsi prendere.
Quando l'uomo nero tocca un bambino, questo bambino è un prigioniero.
L'ultimo giocatore che rimane è salvo.
Egli diventa il nuovo uomo nero!
A group of children stands in front of a single child, not far from him/her. The child who's alone begins by saying out loud the following:
Single Kid: "Are you afraid of the bogeyman?"
Group: "Noooo!"
Single Kid: "Do you want to see it?"
Group: "Siiii!" (Yes!)
Single Kid: "Come on!"
The child "bogeyman" turns around and pretends to sleep.
The children touch the bogeyman and then they run away.
The bogeyman chases them and they try not to get caught.
When the bogeyman touches a child, that child is a prisoner.
The last player who remains is safe.
He becomes the new bogeyman.
