Ha én cica volnék
Ha én cica volnék
If I Was a Puss
Children's Song
Children's Song
(Hungarian)
(English)
Ha én cica volnék,
száz egeret fognék,
de én cica nem vagyok,
egeret sem foghatok.
If I was a puss,
I'd catch a hundred mice,
But I'm not a puss,
I can catch no mouse.
Notes
Cecilia Kovacs wrote:
"I am a Hungarian music teacher living and working in London. I translate loads of Hungarian songs for my own use. I hope one day it can become a publication, so I am not keen on giving them away freely, but here is one to one song that you already published. It slightly changes the original meaning but rides on the old cat-rat rhyme, so here it is, a working version that can be sung in English for 'Ha en cica volnek':
If I were a tomcat,
I would catch a big rat,
But I'm not a pussycat,
I could never catch a rat."
Game Instructions
The children walk in a circle hand in hand. The "mouse" is inside the circle, the "puss" is outside the circle. At the end of the song the children stop and lift their hands forming gates. The "puss" tries to catch the "mouse". Then new players are chosen.
