L'alouette est sur la branche
L'alouette est sur la branche
Faites un petit saut
L'alouette, l'alouette
Faites un petit saut
L'alouette comme il faut
Mettez vos bras en liance
Mettez vos bras en liance
Faites un petit saut
L'alouette, l'alouette
Faites un petit saut
L'alouette comme il faut
Faites-nous trois pas de danse
Faites-nous trois pas de danse
Faites un petit saut
L'alouette, l'alouette
Faites un petit saut
L'alouette comme il faut
Faites-nous la révérence
Faites-nous la révérence
Faites un petit saut
L'alouette, l'alouette
Faites un petit saut
L'alouette comme il faut.
The lark is on the branch
The lark is on the branch.
Jump a little jump,
The lark, the lark,
Jump a little jump
The lark, as you should.
Link arms with your neighbors*,
Link arms with your neighbors.
Jump a little jump,
The lark, the lark,
Jump a little jump
The lark, as you should.
Give us three dance steps,
Give us three dance steps.
Jump a little jump,
The lark, the lark,
Jump a little jump
The lark, as you should.
Bow before us,
Bow before us.
Jump a little jump,
The lark, the lark,
Jump a little jump
The lark, as you should.
Notes
*I asked Monique about the meaning of the line, "Mettez vos bras en liance". She wrote: "'Liance' has the same root as 'lier', meaning 'tie, relate, link'. So it must be something like 'link your arms to your neighbors' or 'take your neighbors by the arm'. See the video here - though in this video they're just two people, while it should normally be many people on a circle."
