Körö Kirkkoon
Körö Kirkkoon
Ride to the Church
Children's Song
Children's Song
(Finnish)
(English)
Körö körö kirkkoon,
papin muorin penkkiin
mustalla ruunalla,
valkealla varsalla
peltojen ylitse,
aitojen alitse,
kilikello kaulassa
punaisessa nauhassa
pom, pom, pom.
Ride, ride to the church
To the priest's wife's pew
With a black horse
With a white colt
Over the fields
Under the fences
Jingling bell on the neck
In a red ribbon
Clink, clink, clink.
Comments
Raija Davis wrote me in July 2004, "The nursery rhyme under 'Finnish' on your site has a word wrong. As you notice perhaps, typically old rhymes in Finnish have (all the) words in a line beginning with the same letter or the same sound.
The line containing 'mustalla ruunalla' should read 'ruskealla ruunalla' (ruskea means brown)."
Thanks!

Many thanks to Mirja Covarrubias at the Consulate General of Finland for contributing this song and to Raija Davis for writing me about the line "ruskealla ruunalla".
Kiitoksia oikein paljon!
