C'est la poulette
The translation below is singable...
C'est la poulette
The Little Hen
Comptine
Nursery Rhyme
(French)
(English)
C'est la poulette
Qui mange la galette
Elle en a tant mangé
Qu'elle s'est étouffée.
It's the little chick
Who eats the galette*
She ate so much so quick,
That she choked you bet.
Notes
*A "galette" is a flat, round cake made with puffy pastry and filled with a mixture of ground almonds, sugar, butter and egg yolks that French people eat on the Wise Three Kings' Day (January 6th). A little trinket (the "fève") is hidden inside it and whoever finds it in his piece of cake is "the King" for the day.
The only liberties I took with the translation was to add in "quick" and "bet" to make it rhyme. -Mama Lisa
