Purple, Yellow, Red, and Green
Purple, Yellow, Red, and Green
Riddle
Purple, yellow, red, and green,
The king cannot reach, nor yet the queen,
Nor can Old Noll*, whose power's so great,
Tell me this riddle while I count eight.
Notes
*Old Noll is Oliver Cromwell. He ruled England after the Puritans deposed the King. He had power of the army starting in June 1647. The king was executed in January 1649. That sets the date of this rhyme to when he had power and the king was still alive, which would have been somewhere between those two dates.
