Days of the Week Song
(Swedish)
(English)
Måndag, Tisdag
Måndag, Tisdag
Kärringen hon spann
Onsdag och Torsdag
så spöa hon sin man
Fredag, Lördag
Fredag, Lördag
söp hon upp hans lön
Men på Söndag morron
gick kärringen på bön.
Monday, Tuesday
Monday, Tuesday
The old woman was spinning
Wednesday and Thursday
She beat her husband up
Friday, Saturday
Friday, Saturday
She drank his salary up
But on Sunday morning
The old woman went to pray.

This song was contributed by Kristina. Here's what she has to say about it:
"This is the song my mother used to teach me about the days of the week. She was taught herself by her grandmother, who also had learned the week days from her grandmother. This means that this has to be a very old song. When I am singing it to my son this is the seventh generation. But nowadays I sometimes wonder if it is such a good song for children. But on the other hand: watching wars and other terrible things on the television - this is kind of innocent...
The song is really typical for Swedish songs this old. They are filled with irony and a good laugh, that's really why I am giving it to you. As an example of old Swedish culture."
