Remember The Coconut Tree, My Dear
Nyango Melissa sent us this song with the note: "We did this as a play in Primary School (ages 5 - 12 years old - I think that will be the equivalent of Elementary through Junior High School) - and basically, a young lady sat surrounded by her maids/friends; a young man walked up to her and started wooing her with this song. He sings the verse and she and her maidens respond. Very simple, but we loved this 'play'."

Suitor:
Remember the coconut tree, my dear
Remember the coconut tree
Remember the coconut tree, my dear
Where you promised to marry me.
Maiden/Young lady:
Oh, oh no, not I, my dear
(Friends sing along as she sings: Oh no, oh no, oh no)
Oh no, oh no, not I
Oh, oh no, not I, my dear
I didn't promise to marry you.
Young man:
Remember the high heels I bought for you
Remember the high heels I bought
Remember the high heels I bought for you
When you promised to marry me.

Oh, oh no, not I, my dear
(Friends sing along as she sings: Oh no, oh no, oh no)
Oh no, oh no, not I
Oh, oh no, not I, my dear
I didn't promise to marry you.
(and so on through a list of gifts he had bought for her - perfume, etc)
