La Virgen se está peinando
(Los peces en el río)
La Virgen se está peinando
(Los peces en el río)
The Virgin is Combing Her Hair
(The Fish in the River)
Canción de Navidad
Christmas Carol
(Spanish)
(English)
La Virgen se está peinando
entre cortina y cortina.
Los cabellos son de oro,
el peine de plata fina.
Estribillo
Pero mira como beben
los peces en el río,
pero mira como beben
por ver al dios nacido.
Beben y beben
y vuelven a beber,
los peces en el río,
por ver al dios nacer
La Virgen está lavando
y tendiendo en el romero.
Los angelitos cantando
y el romero floreciendo.
(Estribillo)
La Virgen va caminando,
Va caminando solita,
Y no lleva más compañía
Que el Niño de la manita.
(Estribillo)
La Virgen está lavando
con un poquito jabón,
se le picaron las manos,
manos de mi corazón.
The Virgin is combing her hair
Between two curtains*;
Her hair is made of gold
The comb is made of fine silver.
(Chorus)
But look how the fish
Drink in the river,
But look how they drink
To see the new-born God.
They drink and drink
And drink again,
The fish in the river,
To see God being born.
The Virgin is washing laundry
And hanging it up on the rosemary,
The little angels are singing
And the rosemary is blooming.
(Chorus)
The Virgin is walking,
She's walking alone,
She has no other company
But the Child holding her hand.
(Chorus)
The Virgin is washing laundry
With a little soap.
Her hands were itching,
Hands of my heart.
Notes
*Literally "between curtain and curtain". There's no way to know what is actually meant, whether two curtains are hanging from somewhere and she's combing her hair in between or she's combing her hair after hanging up a curtain she's just washed and before hanging up the next one.
