Ya se murió el burro
Ya se murió el burro
The Donkey Died
Canción infantil
Children's Song
(Spanish)
(English)
Ya se murió el burro
Que acarreaba la vinagre,
Ya lo llevó Dios
De esta vida miserable.
Estribillo
Que tu ru ru ru rú,
Que tu ru ru ru rú,
Que tu ru ru ru rú,
Que tu ru ru ru rú.
Él era valiente,
Él era mohíno,
Él era el alivio
De todo Villarino.
(Estribillo)
Gastaba polainas,
Chaqueta y chaleco
Y una camisola
Con puños y cuello.
(Estribillo)
Llevaba anteojos,
El pelo rizado
Y en las dos orejas
Un lazo encarnado.
(Estribillo)
Estiró la pata,
Arrugó el hocico,
Con el rabo tieso
decía: -¡Adiós, Perico!
(Estribillo)
Todas las vecinas
Fueron al entierro
Y la tía María
Tocaba el cencerro.
(Estribillo).
The donkey that
Carried the vinegar died.
God took it at last
From this miserable life.
(Chorus)
And too roo roo roo roo,
And too roo roo roo roo,
And too roo roo roo roo,
And too roo roo roo roo.
It was courageous,
It was sad,
It eased the life
Of all of Villarino.
(Chorus)
It wore gaiters,
Jacket and vest
And a loose shirt
With cuffs and a collar.
(Chorus)
It had glasses,
Curly hair
And on the ears,
A red ribbon.
(Chorus)
It straightened its legs,*
Wrinkled its snout.
With its stiff tail
It was saying, "Farewell, Peter."
(Chorus)
All of the neighbors**
Went to the burial
And old Ma Mary
Rang the cowbell.
(Chorus)
Notes
* "Estirar la pata" is literally "to straighten the leg". It's the Spanish equivalent of "to kick the bucket". That line and the end of that verse all refer to the donkey dying.
** "Vecinas" are female neighbors.
