Katalinka, szállj el
Katalinka, szállj el
Ladybug, Fly Away
Children's Song
Children's Song
(Hungarian)
(English)
Katalinka, szállj el,
jönnek a törökök.
Sós kútba tesznek,
onnan is kivesznek,
kerék alá tesznek,
onnan is kivesznek.
Ihol jönnek a törökök,
mindjárt agyonlőnek.
Ladybug, fly away,
The Turks are coming.
They'll put you into the salty well,
They'll take you out of there,
They'll put you under the wheel,
They'll take you out of there.
Here the Turks are coming,
They'll shoot you at once.
Game Instructions
The children walk in a circle.
1-2 line: They pretend to flap their wings with their hands.
3-4 line: They crouch down then rise slowly, holding out their hands (taking out the ladybug).
5-6 line: They turn round slowly.
7-8 line: They march stomping into the middle of the circle and clap once at the word "lőnek" meaning "shoot". Then they lift their hands and "let go of the ladybug".
Comments
It's interesting how it seems a ladybug is called "little Catherine" (Katalinka) in Hungarian, and "little Mary" (Mariquita) in Spanish.
Thanks!
