"Bella ciao" is a song of resistance from the time of the Italian Civil War that took place during World War 2. It was also sung by Partisans who were part of the anti-Fascist, anti-Nazi movement that took place from 1943 – 1945 in Italy.

Nowadays it's sung as a song of freedom and resistance in many languages around the world.

In 2012 the melody was adopted with new lyrics as a worldwide environmental activist song called "Do It Now", demanding political action against global warming.
