In the book, the author states it's sung to the tune of "Nancy Dawson". The latter song can be found in "No Kissing Allowed in School: A Virginia Dancing School" in 1784. The "Piss on the Grass" melody can be found in John Walsh's "Caledonian Country Dances", vol. 3 (c. 1737-40, p. 236).
