This song is sung as a lullaby and also as a Christmas carol. It's originally a Welsh song. However, it's well-known in English and there are many English versions.
All Through the Night – Ar Hyd y Nos
The most commonly sung Welsh lyrics were written by John Ceiriog Hughes (1832 - 1887). There's a version of this song in Breton called "A-Hed An Noz".
The melody is also used in a hymn called "Go My Children With My Blessing". The tune is also used in the hymn "For the Fruit of All Creation" by Fred Pratt Green.
