Happy Birthday to You
Birthday Song
Happy birthday to you!
Happy birthday to you!
Happy birthday dear [name]!
Happy birthday to you!
Notes
Sometimes we sing to the same tune at the end:
How old are you now?
How old are you now?
How old are you nooooow?
How old are you now?
After singing the Happy Birthday Song, kids sometimes add....
Are you one?
Are you two?
Are you three?
Until they get to the person's age and then the person says, "Stop!" and blows out the candles.
Comments
The tune to this song was originally created for the song "Good Morning to All". It was written by sisters Mildred Hill and Patty Hill and published in the book, "Song Stories for the Kindergarten" in 1893. The first reference to the Happy Birthday to You lyrics appeared in a 1901 article in the "Inland Educator and Indiana School Journal". The full lyrics were first printed in 1912 in "The Beginners' Book of Songs".
