Si tu veux faire mon bonheur
Si tu veux faire mon bonheur
If You Want to Make Me Happy
Chanson de ronde
Circle Dance
(French)
(English)
Si tu veux fair' mon bonheur,
Marguerite, Marguerite,
Si tu veux fair' mon bonheur,
Marguerit', donn' –moi ton cœur.
Marguerit' me l'a donné,
Ell' m'aime, ell' m'aime
Marguerit' me l'a donné,
Ell' m'aime pour un baiser
(Tout frais,
Sur le bout du nez
Par-dessus le marché !)*
If you want to make me happy,
Margaret, Margaret,
If you want to make me happy,
Margaret, give me your heart.
Margaret gave it to me,
She loves me, she loves me,
Margaret gave it to me
She loves me for a kiss.
(Very cool,
On the tip of my nose,
On top of all!)
Notes
* The second verse can be found as…
Marguerite me l'a donné,
Son cœur, son cœur,
Marguerite me l'a donné,
Son cœur pour un baiser.
English Translation
Margaret gave (it) to me,
Her heart, her heart,
Margaret gave (it) to me,
Her heart for a kiss.
"What is between parentheses at the end of the original song is optional; it's what we used to add when I was a child." –Monique
Game Instructions
First a girl is chosen to be "Margaret" (they're usually girls). She stands in the center of the circle. The other girls walk around her in a circle singing the first verse. At the end of the first verse "Margaret" chooses someone who meets her in the middle of the circle and the others sing the second verse. At the end of the song, the chosen girl becomes the new "Margaret" and the game starts again.
