C'est la jolie fête, la fête des Rois
Sung to the tune to "Au clair de la lune".
C'est la jolie fête, la fête des Rois
It's the Pretty Day, Three Kings's Day
Chanson du jour des Rois
Three Kings' Day Song
(French)
(English)
C'est la jolie fête
La fête des Rois
On mange la galette
Chez mon oncle Éloi
Si maman est reine
Papa sera roi
Mais si j'ai la fève
La couronne pour moi.
It's the pretty day,
Three Kings' day.
We eat galette*
At my uncle Ray's**.
If Mommy's the queen,
Daddy will be king,
But if I get the trinket,
The crown is for me.
Notes
*The "galette" is the flat, round cake made with puff pastry and filled up with a mixture of ground almonds, sugar, butter and egg yolk. French people eat it on the Wise Kings' Day (January 6th). A little trinket (the "fève") is hidden inside and whoever finds it in his piece of cake is "King" for the day.
**Éloi is actually "Eligius"
