La bonne aventure ô gué
La bonne aventure ô gué
A Fine Adventure, Oh Joy!
Chanson enfantine
Children's Song
(French)
(English)
I'm a little baby boy*
With a nice face,
Who likes candy
And jam.
If you want to give me some,
I'll know how to eat them.
A fine adventure, oh joy!**
A fine adventure.
When little boys
Are nice and smart,
They are given candy
And pretty pictures,
But when they are scolded
They must get the whip,
A sad adventure, oh joy,
A sad adventure.
I'll be smart and very good
To please my mother,
I'll learn my lessons well
To please my father.
I want to make them happy
And if they want to kiss me,
A fine adventure, oh joy!
A fine adventure.
Notes
*Literally a little boy doll.
** "ô gué" is an old French expression that expresses joy and cheerfulness. (It can also be spelled "au gai" or "au gay".) It's traced back to the early 1500's. Nowadays, it's only found in the choruses of popular old songs.
