About Brittany

Brittany was an independent country until 1532. The Duchess Ann of Brittany married a king of France. Ann's daughter Claude also married a king of France, Francis I. Brittany became a part of France after King Francis I annexed it in 1532, eight years after his wife Claude's death.

Brittany is called Breizh in the Breton language. Breton is a Celtic language closely related to Welsh and Cornish. The Breton flag is called "Gwenn ha du" which means "White and black".
